![]() ![]() 'Biopunk Dystopias' contends that we find ourselves at a historical nexus, defined by the rise of biology as the driving force of scientific progress, a strongly grown mainstream attention given to genetic engineering in the wake of the Human Genome Project (1990-2003), the changing sociological view of a liquid modern society, and shifting discourses on the posthuman, including a critical posthumanism that decenters the privileged subject of humanism. The third chapter works to apply theories around biopolitics to necrophilosophical readings of the In the Flesh in order to conclude that the queer undead protagonist of In the Flesh exhibits the potential of posthumanity to induce ethical reflection and defy repressive and violent systems of control. This chapter addresses the posthuman potential to reject gendered and sexed binaries and the control of privileged heteronormativity. The second chapter analyses the representations of the undead character’s minds and bodies in an investigation of what signification can be read in their subjectivity, sexuality and corporeality. This dissertation comprises three chapters the first establishes the ontology of Partially Deceased Syndrome sufferers featured in the series, situating them within a genre genealogy and qualifying their represented process of development within a psychoanalytic framework. From applying abjection, the uncanny, and notions of necrophilosophy, this dissertation reads In the Flesh as a queer gothic fiction which drives forward a posthuman ethics that is challenging of essentialist definitions of humanity. As a vehicle for reflecting social anxieties of their contextual times and places of release, this domestic televisual text adds to the canon of zombie fiction though also significantly deviates from this canon. The thesis statement used to interrogate this text works to understand the contemporary incarnation of the undead figure as a pastiche of the zombies before it and of notions of the posthuman. It does not store any personal data. This dissertation takes the supernatural drama mini-series, In the Flesh, as its focal point of discussion and debate. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future, REC 4 Apocalypse.“ The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The action in REC 3 GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced. However, the film’s roots have not been forgotten, and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The new chapter will see the film “open up” by using a more traditional cinematographic style. This time to the backdrop of an original soundtrack. Synopsis “The original REC crew are back, ready to submit their ensemble cast to another fight for survival against the zombie infection. Stay tuned for more on all these films, perhaps, even a fifth one. Now, this could lead to nothing, but if Genesis and Apocalypse do well, or atleast a demand for another, we could be seeing a fifth flick.Īnyway, 3: Genesis is now in post-production with 4: Apocalypse staring pre-production today. ![]() But, perhaps there is room for a fifth?Īccording to DreadCentral, Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero were having a conversation on Twitter, apparently, Plaza mentioned he had an idea for a film film, this could be a sequel to parts 3 and 4. Well we know about the third and fourth film, 3: Genesis and 4: Apocalypse and we assumed or at least we were told that these would be the last films in the zombie franchise.
